Milo CayKids TRYathlon season kicks off with Duathlon
Sunday, 6th April, 2003 (Cayman Net News)
On Sunday 6 April, 2003, the Milo CayKids TRYathlon season opened with a duathlon. The race was put on in conjunction with the annual DHL Duathlon. With 27 young athletes taking up the challenge, the event was considered to be a huge success.
Polly Cox, Cayman Islands Triathlon Association Committee member with responsibility for MILO CayKids TRYathlon elaborates: "Last year we tried to mimic the adult racing season by offering all the same events ¬ duathlon, aquathon and triathlon ¬ to the kids series. This year, we have developed on that concept and have decided to combine the adult and kids races. This duathlon was the first of this year's events and we have considered it to be a great success. The kids were present to watch the adult race and get a feel for what the competition is all about and all the adults were there to cheer on the kids when they did their race. I think it was extremely rewarding for both sides".
Consistent with the format of all the MILO CayKids events, this duathlon was a non-competitive format. They are designed to promote participation and to encourage kids of all ages, abilities and levels of physical fitness to get active and to enjoy sports. Junior Hines and Nicole Dibben won participation prizes, donated by Sports Supply.
"The other new element to encourage more kids to attempt the event was the "Participation of the Schools" Challenge Banner", explained Polly Cox. The school that had the higher number of students represented were presented with a banner to hang in their gym. This first banner was awarded to the kids of the First Baptist Christian School.
The MILO CayKids committee would like to extend congratulations to all the kids who participated in the MILO Duathlon and would like to extend special thanks to MILO for being our sponsor, the support crew from Jacques Scott, the distributor of MILO in
Cayman and all the volunteers who helped make this event possible.
