Earth Day Activities Available for Everyone

This year’s Earth Day on 22 April, will be surrounded by a week-long schedule of events.
Thursday, 22 April: Activities include Butterfly Farm Discount Day. Buy one ticket, get one free. There many species of butterflies to be seen and learned about . For more information call the Butterfly Farm on 946-3411.
There’s a carpool to work day to reduce the traffic and the stress on the environment. Call Shannon at the DEH on 949-6696 for more information.
Keep Cayman green, with the National Trust, 12-6 pm. Plant a native tree donated compliments of Jacques Scott & Company Ltd. Collect your tree at the National Trust. Call 949-0121 for more information.
Earth Talks will take place at the Seaview Hotel, 8 pm, including presentations on Cayman’s ecosystem. Admission is free. Call the DoE on 949-8469 for more information.
Friday, 23 April: Activities include Marco Giglioli Centre Open House. Receive a guided tour through the building that houses MRCU, DoE, and DEH and learn about each department. Call Shannon at the DEH on 949-6696 to book a tour.
There an Art ECO Party from 3:30-5 pm, sponsored by the National Gallery. Children are invited to create a work with an environmental theme. Art supplies and snacks will be provided. Call the National Gallery on 945-8111 for more information.
Saturday, 24 April: Activities include a Reef Watch Survey. Divers returning a completed survey receive a free bag or shirt on a first come, first served basis. Call CITA ont 949-8522, DOE on 949-8469, or local dive companies to register.
The Earth Day Clean-up, takes place from 7-11 am. Contact Kerry at the Chamber of Commerce on 949-8090 to register or visit its website www.caymanchamber.ky. Garbage bags and disposable gloves will be provided. T-Shirts and cloth bags available while supplies last.
It is also Botanic Park Free Resident Day. Residents present local drivers license and receive free admission. Arrive early and receive a bull thatch or mahogany tree courtesy of Jacques Scott & Company Ltd.
On Sunday, 25 April at 3 pm, exercise and learn at the same time with a Bush Walk. Take this rocky walk though Heritage Forest and identify native trees. Meet at the Community College Car Park.
