Menu Guide Relaunched as Good Taste

Joanna Boxall re-launches Good Taste magazine
The first post-Hurricane Ivan Menu Guide publication was re-launched as Good Taste on 23 May. The guide first appeared in 1998, and the newly re-named Good Taste incorporates the original Menu Guide and is cited as the de facto guide to restaurants and bars, according to Publishing Director Joanna Boxall.
“Good Taste is a comprehensive guide to eating out in the Cayman Islands and promotes the country as the culinary capital of the Caribbean,” said Ms Boxall.
“The magazine helps restaurants increase their business and their profile on the Island. Restaurants featured in the magazine will not just be the high-end fine dining restaurants, but will emphasise the diversity available on Cayman and will include features designed to help restaurants generate business. In addition, other businesses related to the food and wine industry will be able to feature their products and services.”
Ms Boxall explained that people across the world recognise the Islands’ fine cuisine.
“Many people in Cayman know that the quality of food, the choice of restaurants and the dining experience cannot be equalled on any other Caribbean island and the aim of Good Taste is to promote that concept to visitors,” she added. ‘We still want to stick to what the Menu Guide was good at, but also give it a make over and bring it more in line with what restaurants, residents and tourists are demanding.”
She further stated that Good Taste will continue to list all the 150 plus restaurants in the Cayman Islands and include a more detailed listing than previously published.
“As a self confessed 'foodie' I am really excited about producing this magazine as it will combine all the great things about the Menu Guide but also start to promote other aspects of food and wine which people enjoy. Good Taste will feature interviews with some of the Islands’ famous chefs, review food and wine tasting events and feature other articles to make your taste buds tingle," she said.
Food and Beverage Director Marcus Repp at Westin Casuarina Resort and Spa said Good Taste was an excellent source for dining information.
“The Menu Guide has been recognised as the single best source of up to date dining information on Cayman, but Good Taste will be the culinary bible,” said Mr Repp.
The owner of Cimboco Café, Chicken! Chicken! and Breezes By the Bay Tom Lasley said the publication gives tourists and residents more dining choices.
“What I really like about Good Taste is that it will still allow tourists and residents to easily choose their dining experience without too many frills or extra fluff,” said Mr Lasley.
Good Taste will also include a wine section. Reviews on wine will be included, together with wine tastings and articles aimed at those who enjoy a good glass of wine.
Paul McLaughlin, Retail Operations Manager for Jacques Scott, said: “We think this is a really good concept and look forward to working with Good Taste; it will provide a great forum for residents looking for wines which are good value for money, as well as for connoisseurs needing to track down those elusive bottles.”
Terry Grimes, co-owner of Calypso Grill said: "I just love the new front cover for the magazine, definitely the type of class and image that Cayman needs."
Ms Boxall and her husband Charlie Grover recently returned from their honeymoon in Botswana and South Africa, experiencing the extremes of living in the bush on a horseback safari to living it up on the famous Garden Route renowned for its fine restaurants.
“So if you want the authentic recipes for cooking springbok or ostrich, I would be more than happy to share them with you,” said Ms Boxall.
