Dive into Rosé

Rosé wine comes from the same grapes as red wine, but rosé ferments with the skins for a shorter period of time, resulting in a pink color and lighter taste. Rosé wines are often blends, but they can also be made of one type of wine variety.

Most rosés are made of Grenache grapes, but other commonly used wine grapes include Syrah, Cinsault, Mourvèdre, Tibouren, Carignan, and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Blush wines and rosé wines are often confused, but they’re distinct types of wine. Blush wines are blends of red and white wines while rosés come from red wine grapes.

Flavor

As you can imagine from its source, rosé wines tend to taste similarly to a light red wine. Tasting notes used to describe rosé most frequently include berries, florals, citrus, and melon.

While rosé wines can be dry or sweet, depending on where they’re made. Sweet rosé wines include White Zinfandel, White Merlot, and Pink Moscato, and dry rosé wines include Renache, Sangiovese, Syrah, and Pinot Noir.

Serving

Rosé wines need to be chilled before serving. Instead of adding ice, chill in the refrigerator or freezer to 50-60° and serve in a stemmed wine glass. You can also choose to decant to bring out all of the complex flavors of the rosé.

Food Pairings

The ideal food pairings for rosé wines are quite broad. Spicy foods, salads, sushi, barbecue, and grilled foods call for a light, zesty wine like rosé.
