Prices at most stores, bars and restaurants are listed in the local currency – the Cayman Islands Dollar (KYD). If you are paying with US Dollars, keep in mind that Cayman Dollars exchange at a constant 20% premium. In other words, $1.00 KYD is equal to $1.20 USD.
When you buy beer, wine or liquor in the U.S., your domestic brands are typically about half the price of imported brands. In Grand Cayman, nearly everything has to be imported, so you can expect prices on the brands you drink at home to be slightly more expensive here.
When shopping for beer, you can save by buying Cayman’s own locally produced beers from Cayman Islands Brewery (CIB). They produce several highly regarded main beers and seasonals, including Caybrew, their flagship full-bodied premium pale lager, 345 Stout, Twisted Citrus, and Mango Tango.
For spirits, try the award-winning Seven Fathoms golden rum from Grand Cayman’s only distillery, the Cayman Spirits Company. This rum is aged in American White Oak bourbon barrels seven fathoms deep under water in a secret location off the coast of the Grand Cayman.
