Understand the language around alcohol in order to order your drink most accurately.
- Neat – poured directly into a glass at room temp with no ice
- Up – strained into a stemmed cocktail glass after being shaken with ice
- Over/on the rocks – both terms mean served with ice
- Single vs. Double – A single pour is 1 ½ oz. while a double is 3 oz.
- Short – served in a rocks glass with equal parts spirit to mixer

Pointers for Drinking Rum
When enjoying rum, avoid the bottles with an overly high alcohol content or with artificial flavors or colors. These brands may be cheaper, but they will lack the flavor of quality rum.
