A Few Recommendations

From the foothills of New Zealand to the shore of South Africa, Sauvignon Blanc is among the world’s best loved grapes. Here are several of our favorites:

France:  In France, there are two major regions where you can find quality Sauvignon Blanc – the Loire Valley and Bordeaux. In the Loire Valley, there are two villages (Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé) that are renowned for their exceptional Sauvignon Blanc, which features crisp, bright flavors of gooseberry, grass, and black currant thanks to the cool climate. Try a bottle of Baron Philippe de Rothschild Sauvignon Blanc paired with delicate white fish or oysters.

New Zealand:  New Zealand has become one of the most renowned regions for Sauvignon Blanc, where the grape can deliver interesting flavors that range from tart to tropical. Try the award-winning Nautilus Sauvignon Blanc from the Marlborough region of New Zealand. It pairs well with everything from salads to seafood.

California:  Napa, California is one of the most experimental wine regions and one of the few places you’ll find un-oaked, lightly oaked, and even heavily oaked Sauvignon Blanc. The 2015 Emmolo Sauvignon Blanc from the Napa Valley is fermented in concrete. It’s subtle and balanced, with minerality and bright natural acidity and a crisp lightness. The underlying notes of fleshy grapefruit and lime zest are pleasing to the palate. Try pairing it with salads or green vegetables.

Argentina: Mendoza is the largest wine region in Argentina. Trapiche Sauvignon Blanc from Mendoza has a rich and powerful nose, with lots of pineapple and tropical fruit character. Its dry taste. Aromas of grapefruit and asparagus, and pleasant acidity makes it a wonderful companion for green vegetables and salad.
