Whether traveling solo or with family or friends, Grand Cayman offers unforgettable experiences that everyone will enjoy. Here are several suggestions from our experts on how to spend your free time.

Explore George Town

George Town became the Cayman capital because its natural harbor offered a safe anchorage for ships. If you’re interested in the city’s interesting history and heritage, start at the Cayman Islands National Museum. It’s located in the oldest public building in the Cayman Islands, dating back to the 1800s.

Art lovers will appreciate the high-quality collection of Caymanian artworks at the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands, as well as the scheduled and drop-in art classes and workshops for adults and children. Get a feel for the Island’s history through art, from its seafaring days to its development as a global financial center and popular tourist destination.

Snorkel or Dive

Discover a whole new world beneath the bright blue waters of beautiful Grand Cayman. Babylon in the East End features colorful rope sponges and black coral; the North Wall makes up the edge of the Cayman Trench (or Cayman Trough) that runs from Cuba to Central America; and Northwest Point Drop Off in the West Bay is one of the most colorful dive sites in the entire Caribbean.

Another great dive is the USS Kittiwake, a 251-foot-long former submarine support ship that was sunk in 2011 to serve as an artificial reef. Explore the ship deck by deck or snorkel from above to see 50 species of coral and more than 500 species of fish.

You’ll find some of the best snorkeling in the Cayman Islands at Cheeseburger Reef, which features towering coral formations, Eden Rock, with its underwater caves and other natural wonders, and the Wreck of the Cali, a relatively shallow shipwreck of a four-masted schooner that sunk just outside George Town harbor in 1944.

Visit a Rum Distillery

If you would like to see how rum is made, take a guided tour of the Cayman Spirits Company distillery to learn about their process for making their award-winning Seven Fathoms golden rums with local ingredients, such as sugarcane from Grand Cayman’s East End. The rum is aged in American White Oak bourbon barrels seven fathoms deep under water in a secret location off the coast of the Grand Cayman.
