Planning for a Wedding

The wine that you choose for your wedding should be an easy drinker that lends itself to the majority of palates. We at Jacques Scott Wines & Spirits promise a bevy of choices from regions across the globe.

Providing your guests with some choice is an effort that your guests will appreciate. A couple of white wines – one dry and one sweet – and a couple of red wines – a light-bodied as well as a medium-sized bodied – from which your guests can choose is ideal. Making a lighter wine available before a meal and a fuller one during the meal is usually the expectation to avoid overindulging early in the evening. You may also choose champagne to include during the reception toast.

Estimating the Amount of Wine Required

The number and length of the periods where wine will be served will factor into the calculation of wine bottles needed for your wedding ceremony and reception.

We find that most bars at weddings divvy out liquor in the following proportion:

  • ⅓ wine and champagne
  • ⅓ spirit
  • ⅓ beer

Since most guests consume about six drinks during the event, and one-third of those drinks will be wine, you’ll need twice the number of glasses of wine as guests. If you have 100 guests, you’ll need 200 glasses of wine, 200 servings of beer, and 200 servings of liquor.

Most standard bottles of wine hold 4-5 glasses of wine, so 200 glasses will be about 40-50 bottles. These guidelines will allow you to arrange for an appropriate amount of wine for your event.
