Grand Cayman After Dark
Bioluminescent Bay – For a unique evening adventure, try a kayaking tour of the small, protected Bioluminescent Bay on the north side of Grand Cayman. The magical phenomenon, which causes the sea to glow during the darkest nights, is created by tiny single-celled organisms called dinoflagellates that emit light as they move through the water. Reserve your trip to Bio Bay with a tour operator in advance because the brightest light displays follow the moon cycle.
Kittiwake Shipwreck & Underwater Museum – Dive or snorkel on the wreck of the USS Kittiwake, a 251-foot-long former submarine support ship that was sunk in 2011 to serve as an artificial reef. It is Grand Cayman’s biggest shipwreck and a haven for 50 species of coral and more than 500 species of fish. In the dark, it has a more eerie feel to it as you move from room to room with just your flashlight to lead the way, and it’s one of the most exciting ways to dive this wreck.
Night Diving – The Cayman Islands’ crystal clear warm water, unbelievable visibility of 60 to 100 feet or more, pristine coral reefs and marine life make it a world-class destination for snorkelers and divers. But you never know what you might find when you go diving at night! Marine life behaves differently after dark. Experience night-feeding tarpon, sleeping turtles, lobsters searching for food, color-changing octopus and more. Operators like Divetech can help you arrange a dive.
Enjoy a Night on the Town – Some of our favorite Grand Cayman bars and clubs include O Bar Nightclub in Queen’s Court Plaza on Seven Mile Beach, which features bars on two levels, award-winning mixologists, and laser lights and video jockeys during Friday night “infinity” happy hours and Fidel Murphy’s Public House, also in Queen’s Court Plaza, where you’ll enjoy karaoke on Friday nights, live music on Saturdays, and can watch a wide variety of football, rugby and cricket matches, and UFC, NHL, MLB and NFL events.
