Gaja IDDA Rosato Terre Siciliane IGP
JW0248KYD $31.99
Gaja goes to Etna: a pale, mineral rosé of Nerello Mascalese grown on volcanic slopes. Crisp, saline and built for the sun.
IDDA is the Gaja family’s Sicilian project, a partnership with Etna winemaker Alberto Graci on the southwest slopes of the volcano. “Idda” is what locals call Etna: “she.” The Rosato is made from Nerello Mascalese, Etna’s great red grape, picked early and pressed gently for colour and freshness.
It pours a pale, luminous pink. The nose is wild strawberry, pink grapefruit, white flowers and a whiff of crushed rock. The palate is dry, taut and lively, with bright acidity, a saline edge from the volcanic soil, and a long, clean finish. This is rosé with somewhere to be, not just a poolside pour, though it’s very good at that too.
Serve well chilled. Grilled fish, prawns, tuna crudo, tomato salads, anything with olive oil and lemon. Drink young.
